Spring into action with Start Up East

business_start_upAs the days grow longer and the weather improves, many people in the region feel empowered to put their long-thought about ideas into action. In 2012 almost half a million small businesses opened their doors, a 10 per cent increase on the previous year, and 2013 is expected to exceed that.

Realising Cambridge’s entrepreneurial potential Ed Goodman, founder of Cambridge Business Lounge the city’s most coveted co-working space, is bringing Start Up East workshops to the city. The inclusive course is aimed at individuals of any age, industry or experience. It is developed especially for those thinking of starting a business following redundancy, graduation or the birth of a great idea, and also suits people who have recently started a business and need directional support.

Intended to help turn ideas into a tangible reality, the five-hour workshops equip participants with the necessary skills to plan their business, and the information to manage cash flow, cope with taxation, company structure and insurances, as well as branding, marketing, budgeting and creating a web presence for their new firm. The courses will eventually run on both Wednesdays and Saturdays to accommodate those who are still currently in full time employment, with the first workshop taking place on Wednesday 29th May 2013.

Host Ed has helped over 10,000 small businesses to develop in the past decade and has a passion for collaboration. He hopes Start Up East will be the catalyst for many small businesses in Cambridge;

“I am delighted to be able to offer these courses as I hear so many business ideas from local people. Aimed at those who currently are employed and are thinking of starting a business, or would love to but don’t know how or where to begin, Start Up East is an accessible course in a friendly and supportive environment to help individuals take their idea to the next level.”

Set in the Cambridge Business Lounge, a place where collaboration and networking is inherent, participants meet others in the same position and may be able to work together as their businesses are getting off the ground.

If you are passionate about your idea or hobby and have a business proposal that you would like to pursue, the course costs just £40, includes light refreshments and a Start Up Support Pack, and takes place in Cambridge city centre on Wednesday 5th June.
